Department

#The aim of the Department of Production Systems Engineering is to “train engineers who are capable of practicing manufacturing useful for people and the environment by combining knowledge of machines, electrics/electronics and information.” “Manufacturing” in modern times is formed by combining and fusing together the knowledge and technologies of these three fields.

In the Department of Production Systems Engineering we link together these three fields of machines, electrics/electronics and information to learn about this engineering. We have formed three courses as the cornerstones of these respective fields. Furthermore, we have six courses available from the fourth year in order to increase specialization and in order to fuse together multiple specialties in an advanced manner or in order to provide a high degree of internationalism and management skills. We aim to train even more practical engineers with a high degree of creativity by fusing together knowledge and technologies in many fields and the empirical knowledge, ideas and techniques of many people.

#The Department of Material and Environmental Engineering was reorganized in 2013 by introducing agriculture and food industry such as food production and functional food materials.

Students will acquire the latest bioprocess and engineering approaches in order to solve complicated environmental problems including technologies producing new resource using byproduct in agriculture and food processing.

#The Department of Civil Engineering is a department which trains engineers who are capable of putting into practice safe and comfortable urban planning with consideration for the global environment by learning about design/planning technology making full use of IT technology, state-of-the-art construction technology and environmental protection technology.

“Civil engineering” is “academic study for the development of the roads, bridges, railways, ports, rivers, electric power facilities, water and sewer services and dams that are essential for us to live secure and comfortable lives.” A great many people lost their lives due to the earthquake and tsunami that struck eastern Japan in March 2011. “Civil engineering” has a major role to play in protecting human lives and property from such disasters as well as in new urban planning for reconstruction after a disaster has occurred. We learn about design/planning technology making full use of IT technology, state-of-the-art construction technology and environmental protection technology in the Department of Civil Engineering for safe and comfortable urban planning with consideration for the global environment. We train engineers capable of becoming leaders in large projects that will leave a mark on the map in the future.

General Education at National Institute of Technology, Hakodate College is divided into “Human and Social Sciences” and “Natural Sciences and Mathematics”. Both groups of General Education share a common goal: to cultivate a rich education and equip students with the fundamental knowledge necessary to become adults and engineers who are capable of acting in an age of globalization, while also providing students with human education from a wide range of perspectives. Through cooperation with specialized departments, General Education provides comprehensive liberal education and fundamental engineering for all departments and for all students over both the 5-year regular course and the 2-year Advanced Course.
